Urban Forestry
Creative Sanctuary in Nature
Situated in the center of a clearing in Mt. Airy Forest, the Urban Forestry acts as a facility to recycle and reclaim local lumber which is then used by industrial design students on site. The complex radiates from the central node with views out to the forest, both separate in form while engaging with nature. Existing park shelters and trails are maintained to encourage public and student interaction.

The project came from research into the tectonic system of the stacked arch dome. While simplified in form from this system, subtracted elements hint at an underlying knowledge basis and act as design drivers for circulation and aperture. Intended to be showcased as a large scale proposal, the renderings reflect this and focus on light, material and texture instead of furnishing and program.
